Join us and our City and County Open Space partners for a birding adventure! Learn how to identify common species and the best locations around the city to spot our feathered friends during a roughly one-mile walk around the park or open space. You can practice using binoculars of your own or we will loan you a pair, along with a field guide. Foothills and Petroglyph walks include moderate hiking. Beginning and experienced birders of all ages are welcome! Seated and stationary birding will also be available. The group will leave from the parking area at the beginning of the event – please arrive at the posted start time.

The walk will begin from the Kiwanis Picnic Shelter at Elena Gallegos Open Space (35.16504198, -106.47212994). Enter the Open Space area going east from the corner of Tramway and Simms Park Road. Take a left at the ranger station then follow the loop to Kiwanis shelter parking area.If asked, tell the ranger that you are attending an event at the shelter – parking fees will not apply.
